User Defined Groups

A user defined group allows you to create hierarchies of components based on user-defined specifications. With a user defined group, you can arrange components in the VCM in secondary trees based on a user defined configuration.

The User Defined Trees dialog displays a list of already created user defined groups.

As of this release, a new type of user defined group has been added to the product. Historically, all User Defined (UD) Groups were editable in the ConstructSim Planner client. In some cases, the structure was generated in the ConstructSim Executive data processing application, but the result could also be edited in the ConstructSim Planner client.

This changes in Update 2 with a new Configuration Based (CB) type of UD Group. This is essentially a query of the VCM data that is read-only in the ConstructSim Planner client. This also means that the UD Group workflows in the ConstructSim Executive have been removed.

The configuration for this new UD Group type is done in the web portal.

Note: If you have the ADMIN permission role, you can view the User Defined Groups page in ConstructSim Work Package Server but cannot open, edit or create User Defined Groups on the web. If you have the ADMIN + CREATOR permission role, you can view, open, edit or create User Defined Groups on the web.
